To start off with, you can only get a Hulk into a class 1 wormhole by repackaging it and hauling it in with a industrial ship or building it at the POS. Once you get the Hulk into the wormhole and assemble it you will never be able to get it out again.
When mining in a wormhole you'll only get one spawn of sleepers. Once they are killed you'll be able to mine without worrying about NPC spawns so if you like to mine with a cargo-hulk then go for it. I'd bring along some mining upgrades for those times when you have someone hauling for you.
The only thing really worth mining in a wormhole are the ABCs. If you are bored you can mine the Gneiss, Spodumain, Hedbergite, and other mid to low level ores. Mining the low end stuff really depends on whether or not your corporation is building stuff in the wormhole and needs the low end mins.
One last comment: the logistics of wormhole mining are the challenge. I've never seen mercoxit in a C1 or C2, even with an Uncommon Core Deposit, so they're right about ABC. Everything else is there, but that's all that's really worth mining (I'd rarely do Crokite even). All of that ore is 16 m3 per unit. Your choices are basically two:
Both of these are problematic. You can't get an Orca or a freighter in/out of a C1 wormhole, so you can't haul using those. That means your max cargo would be something in the neighborhood of 48,000 m3, using a rigged Iteron V. That's 3000 units of Arkonor, and I've found as much as 20,000 units in a single wormhole grav site. So, hauling it out is doable but takes a lot of trips.
If you refine in the hole, then you have to deal with the inefficiencies of the various refinery arrays. The regular one is a waste; don't use it. You can't get more than 35% of the ore out of it. The medium intensive can get you up to 75% max (it seems to be about 30-35% base because I don't get the full 75% with one refining Ark; no Ark processing yet), but can only hold 25,000 m3 of ore and takes 1.5 hours to refine. The intensive array can hold 200,000 m3 of ore, takes 3 hours to refine, and gives the same percentages. It does require a large tower, though.
The first time we set up in a C1 we hauled it out. The second time we used a medium intensive array. After that we upgraded to a large tower with an intensive array. It's a lot easier to get the minerals out than the ore, even though we lose 25% of them in the refining process. Now, if we had a Rorqual in there to compress ore I think we would have compacted it and hauled the compressed ore out.
